Parking for the disabled

PARKING FOR THE DISABLED

To facilitate the ease of parking for disabled parishioners at Saint Mary Immaculate, particularly during weekend Masses, the City Council at the request of CCS Disability Action have (at no expense to the parish) generously allocated two more mobility parking spaces in First Avenue.

These two extra parking spaces are situated adjacent to the church driveway and are clearly marked with the wheelchair symbol and familiar yellow markings.  They are for the benefit of disabled parishioners attending weekly Masses and other car users bringing the disabled to church.

All parishioners are requested to observe correct use of these spaces in addition to the mobility parking area designated within the church grounds adjacent to the presbytery garaging.  Mobility parking permits must also be displayed within vehicles when using these spaces.

Thank you to Mandy Gudgeon from CCS Disability for her advice and advocacy in securing these extra mobility spaces and assisting in making the church a little more accessible for those with mobility issues.

We are also grateful to Tauranga City Council staff for their prompt attention and response to our parish needs.

The Finance & Management Committee acknowledges the limited parking space available within the church grounds; however, we will continue to investigate other car parking resources.  In the meantime, we are grateful to parishioners who continue to make use of free weekend parking spaces on the street and in nearby multi-storey car parks and in the interests of safety refrain from using the grassed areas adjacent to the driveway.
