From the Finance Committee
Recent publicity around access to St Mary’s has drawn some very helpful feedback.  It has become evident that a number of visitors to the Church on weekdays and especially at weekend Masses do rely on being able to park closer to the Church because, as elderly or less mobile parishioners, they find getting from their cars to Mass a bigger challenge than for most of us.

A key objective for the Finance Committee is to ensure the parking space we have on site and close to the Church is prudently allocated while meeting our obligations under Council approvals, etc.

The marking of carparks and accompanying signage is being updated so carpark users are clear on what parking is available.  It would be most helpful if our community “parish family” could consider those who may experience difficulties with mobility by parking offsite – especially at Mass times or other peak demand periods.  This approach is part of the welcoming environment we are working hard to create for our Parish.

We are also further investigating the implications of parking on the grass area parallel to the driveway to the carpark.  This was never intended to be used for carparking and the retaining wall protecting this area may not be suitable for heavier vehicles.  It may be necessary to isolate this area and eliminate it as a parking option.  Of particular concern is that vehicles parked there can impede access or emergency services and others wanting to access the rear of the Church.

We welcome any further feedback to help with managing this important aspect of the Church’s operation.

The Finance Committee is continuing its development of systems and working hard with investigation of ways we could finance completion of maintenance of our facilities.  This is an ongoing challenge.

We are also preparing for our annual review of parishioner support for the Parish which will occur in November.  This year we anticipate an emphasis on how we can be more self sufficient by benefiting from both the time and talents of parishioners who may be able to support the Parish through voluntary roles that also draw them closer to their faith.

We are confident there will be positive outcomes.
