Welcome to our Parish of St Mary Immaculate, Tauranga.
We are located on Cameron Road, in between Elizabeth Street and First Avenue.
The church has enjoyed its city location for over 100 years, and it is one of the larger parishes in the Diocese of Hamilton. There are many groups and activities on offer within the parish that cater for our multi-cultural Catholic Community. This website provides details of some of these activities and other Catholic organisations. We hope this virtual introduction encourages you to visit us in reality, and to participate in our worship at Saint Mary Immaculate. |

ST. MARY IMMACULATE – LIBRARY UPDATE by Jackie Martin Greetings from your new librarian. I must begin by making apology for the delay in restoring the library for your use, but am pleased to advise that it is definitely a ‘work in progress’. The new-look library will hopefully be completed by Christmas. As for the books themselves, they are systematically being recorded onto computer, using the same categories as before. The titles under each category will not now be in alphabetical order, but numerical. A printed list of books will sit beside each category, so that users can skim down the titles then easily find their chosen book on its shelf. The old wooden trolley beneath the shelves is also having a makeover, and will be used for both cards and returns. For the time being, returns can be left on one of the remaining bookcases. In the future, new titles will be added, and some no longer in use removed and held in safe keeping. Thanks are owed to Chris Heaton for his hard work. …And, of course, thanks to you all for your patience. |

The Parish Candle Maker - Pat Batten
My candle making started in late 1994 or early in 1995. I'm never quite sure quite when.
One day while working in the church, I found Father Brian Dougherty making candles in the parish centre kitchen. I asked if he was making soup, because it looked like it. I was very surprised when he replied it was candle wax. A few months later his time on loan to our Diocese was over and he returned to Dunedin Diocese. |

‘HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE ALPHA COURSE?’
The Alpha Course reaches out to all people to help them learn about, renew or further develop their personal relationship with God. It is a ten-week course offered by many different Christian churches. The course encourages discussion on the big questions – life and death and their meaning focusing Christianity within life, as we know it today. It is a novel approach to Christian education, has changed lives, and most who attend a course appear happier for their experience. The course is chatty and non-threatening, easy going and relaxed. There is NO pressure to join in the discussions on the evening … but you will find it hard not to have an input. |

PARKING FOR THE DISABLED
To facilitate the ease of parking for disabled parishioners at Saint Mary Immaculate, particularly during weekend Masses, the City Council at the request of CCS Disability Action have (at no expense to the parish) generously allocated two more mobility parking spaces in First Avenue.
These two extra parking spaces are situated adjacent to the church driveway and are clearly marked with the wheelchair symbol and familiar yellow markings. They are for the benefit of disabled parishioners attending weekly Masses and other car users bringing the disabled to church.
